Hillsdale College

Kimberley Taylor Music-Entrepreneur Fellowship

Hillsdale College established the Kimberley Taylor Music-Entrepreneur Fellowship through the generosity of Stephen Taylor. This fellowship honors Stephen's wife, Kimberley Anne Taylor’s legacy by supporting students who, like Kimberley, possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for music.

Students who can demonstrate an interest in entrepreneurship and involvement in music may apply for the Kimberley Taylor Music-Entrepreneur Fellowship and have an opportunity to be awarded a scholarship if chosen as fellows.

The Hutchison Center for Commerce & Freedom is a natural fit for Stephen Taylor and those like him who support business and entrepreneurship and who want to honor a loved one. Kimberley embodied the belief that free enterprise, pursued with creativity and conviction, is more than a path to success; it is a path to a life fully lived. Kimberley demonstrated that commerce, at its best, is an expression of human dignity and ingenuity.

Kimberley Anne Taylor
(December 22, 1946 – May 26, 2025)

Born into a military family as the eldest of four children, Kimberley grew up understanding that freedom is not given, it is defended, sustained, and earned through character. Her father, Lieutenant Colonel Jack Roberts, was a career United States Air Force officer whose service spanned World War II through 1969. Her mother held the family together through years of relocations and postings, serving as the quiet, indispensable backbone of a life shaped by duty before comfort.

Moving wherever the Air Force sent them, Kimberley developed a lifelong sense of curiosity, adaptability, and independence. These qualities were matched by a remarkable attentiveness to others. She was an exceptional listener, someone who not only heard people but remembered them.

She attended Texas Woman’s University, where she earned a place on the National Dean’s List, the University Honor Roll, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and membership in Sigma Pi Beta.

Together with her husband, Stephen, she co-founded Firefly Magic Firefly Lights, a bootstrapped venture built on an idea and the freedom to pursue it on their own terms. The company became a pioneer in firefly simulation technology, with its lights enjoyed in backyards across America and in entertainment venues around the world. Kimberley approached this work not only with creativity and determination, but with the same integrity and generosity that defined her relationships.

She was also a lover of music and believed deeply that creativity and enterprise belong together. In that spirit, the Kimberley Taylor Music-Entrepreneur Fellowship continues her work. It reflects how she lived: investing in others, encouraging their ideas, and believing in their potential.
